The Queen of the Grill Awaits You in Cortona

Cortona's Steak Festival: The Authentic Taste of Chianina Beef

For over sixty years, one of Tuscany's most celebrated food festivals has honoured the tradition of the Florentine steak in the heart of Cortona.

Among the highlights of Cortona's summer calendar, the Steak Festival is a must for anyone wishing to discover the authentic flavours of the Val di Chiana. Established in 1960, it is one of Tuscany's oldest and most renowned food festivals, attracting thousands of visitors from Italy and around the world each year.

Italy's Largest Working Grill

The undisputed symbol of the festival is its impressive 14-metre-long grill, the largest working grill in Italy. Here, the famous Chianina steak is cooked over an open flame. Sourced from the prestigious Chianina cattle breed, native to the Val di Chiana, it is widely regarded as one of Tuscany's finest culinary specialties.

Traditionally served rare and seasoned only with coarse salt, the steak showcases the authentic flavours and simplicity of Tuscan cuisine.

A Celebration in the Heart of Cortona

The festival takes place in the Parterre Gardens, within Cortona's ancient Etruscan walls. Long outdoor tables, the aroma of charcoal grilling and a welcoming atmosphere transform the historic centre into a lively gathering place where locals and visitors come together to celebrate one of the town's most cherished traditions.

Every evening, the festival also features free live concerts and musical entertainment, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors of all ages.

A Taste of Tuscan Tradition

The festival menu features:

  • Grilled Chianina steak (approximately 750–800 g)
  • Traditional Tuscan side dishes
  • Local bread and wines
  • Children's menu

The Steak Festival is much more than a food event. It is an opportunity to experience Cortona's culture, traditions and hospitality through one of its most iconic dishes.
